"It is virtually impossible to walk away from one of Mr. Goode’s recitals without the sense of having gained some new insight, subtle or otherwise, into the works he played or about pianism itself."

-  The New York Times

"Tonal beauty certainly is Sarah Shafer’s calling card, especially in the upper register, where her Adina has many exquisitely lovely phrases."

Revered worldwide as a pianist’s pianist, CMSD favorite Richard Goode returns with soprano Sarah Shafer for a concert of works for solo piano and songs for voice and piano. Called “a singer to watch” by Opera News, Shafer first collaborated with Goode at the Marlboro Music Festival, and enjoys an active schedule of international career of operatic and concert performances annually. She remains the only vocalist with whom Goode collaborates regularly.

This rare program includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Fauré – each composer famous for instrumental chamber works that have been heard by CMSD audiences for many years. No less dear to these master composers were their works for the human voice, rare jewels blending music and poetry. The opportunity to hear this great music by such artists is an experience not to be missed.

7pm, Free to ticket-holders.
Steve Wogaman and Willa Walker present highlights of the CMSD’s 2019-2020 season, including a celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday anniversary.
