"The Montrose Trio rose to the occasion, collectively producing a big sound that suggested a much larger ensemble. The challenges of the work are great, but the players met them with aplomb...It doesn't hurt that all three musicians are consummate artists."

Seligman Performing Arts Center Opening Night CelebrationMendelssohn: Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66 PRE-CONCERT EVENT7pm, Free to ticket-holders. Now the stuff of Legend, during the CMSD’s 70th season, violinist Martin Beaver and cellist Clive Greensmith of the Tokyo String Quartet joined forces with pianist Jon Kimura Parker to form what has become the most exciting new piano trio to emerge on the international music scene in decades. The trio’s world debut performance – and the announcement of the trio’s name – took place on the CMSD’s concert stage in December 2013. In their third CMSD appearance since that magical night, the Montrose Trio opens our historic 75th season with a program that includes the same Tchaikovsky Trio performed at the very first CMSD concert three-quarters of a century ago: by a ensemble that included Martin Beaver’s legendary violin teacher, Josef Gingold, the great cellist Georges Miquelle, and revered Detroit pianist Mischa Kottler.
